Lupfer Landscaping is searching for an Operations Manager to lead our crews and manage the day-to-day operations of the company . The Operations Manager will manage personnel, scheduling, equipment, and materials to meet production goals.

Job Description and Essential Functions:

Team Leadership

  • Lead and supervise landscape maintenance and construction crews.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to crew members.
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment.


Planning & Scheduling

  • Implement landscape maintenance and enhancement schedules
  • Manage and oversee landscape installation jobs
  • Estimate and produce maintenance bids.
  • Ensure that construction jobs and maintenance contracts are completed on time and within budget.
  • Respond autonomously to emergency scheduling needs to provide the best possible service to all customers.


Job Costing

  • Oversee construction jobs to job cost individual elements.
  • Update production rates for maintenance and enhancement after service is performed.


Turf and Plant Care

  • Oversee the proper planting, pruning, and care of trees, shrubs, flowers, lawns, and other plants as needed. 
  • Monitor and address pest and disease issues.
  • Manage turf care operations.


Equipment Management

  • Maintain and manage fleet and landscape equipment.
  • Ensure the safe and proper use of tools and machinery. 


Budget Management 

  • Monitor expenses and make recommendations for cost-saving measures.


Quality Control

  • Conduct site inspections and crew inspections to ensure quality standards are met. 
  • Address any issues or deficiencies in maintenance practices. 
  • Run installation job sites in a clean and safe manner. 


Customer Service / Client Communication

  • Communicate with clients to understand their expectations and address concerns.
  • Collaborate with homeowners and/or property managers.


Safety Compliance 

  • Enforce safety protocols and policies and ensure that team members adhere to safety 
  • guidelines.
  • Identify and address potential safety hazards in the work environment. 
  • Responsible for scheduling of all training and ensuring the company is in complete compliance with federal and state regulations.

Compensation:

  • In the top 5% of salary for position and experience per the Illinois Landscape Contractors Associations Wage Survey

Responsibilities: 

  • Daily crew preparation and dispatch; reviewing route notes, ensuring each crew has necessary equipment and materials.
  • Provide field support during the day that may include checking sites for quality control, giving directions to crews, picking up broken equipment, managing materials.
  • Shop Organization 
  • Maintain equipment.
  • Inventory parts and materials
  • Ensure the shop and yard are clean and organized
  • Fleet maintenance coordination
  • Regular maintenance of vehicles (Including regular washing of the trucks and trailers​)
  • Safety stickers for trucks
  • Insurance cards for all trucks and trailers
  • License plate stickers for all trucks and trailers
  • Source and coordinate the pickup and delivery of all materials needed for day-to-day operations including enhancement projects, design & install projects and landscape maintenance
  • Coordinate the logistics of material pickups and deliveries
  • Complete Site Inspections, Crew Inspections, and Tailor inventory for all crews on a regular basis
  • Keep route lists up to date
  • Onboard new employees with assistance from HR support
  • Ensure all employees have proper uniforms and PPE
  • Facilitate Safety Meetings
  • Oversee Pay-For-Performance Program reporting
  • Train and mentor crews on policies, procedures and equipment using Greenius on-line software
  • Snow Removal Operations Management
  • Prepare the crews and equipment to be ready for snow removal operations
  • Oversee crews and run snow operations
  • Oversee the post-event checklist completion

Qualifications:

  • A trustworthy, honest person that works well on a team and will contribute to the work environment in a positive way.
  • Someone who is looking for a long-term position where you can continue to grow and improve for years to come.
  • At least 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience managing crews and projects in the landscaping industry.
  • Self-motivated, goal oriented and hard working.
  • Must be organized and efficient with the ability to proficiently systemize tasks.
  • Knowledge of plant material, diseases, insects, chemicals, and irrigation systems.
  • Proficiency with all landscape equipment and installation techniques.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Bilingual a plus.
  • Pesticide License or willingness to obtain one. 
  • Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.

Requirements: 

  • Strong customer service skills.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Word and familiarity with MS Excel and MS Outlook.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate and complete numerous activities simultaneously in a high-energy, fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
  • Landscape maintenance experience including the ability to operate all equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of turf, plant species, shrubs, trees, herbicides, common diseases, and pest problems.
  • Possess a positive and professional attitude and the ability to motivate staff.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills, good judgment, and flexibility.
  • Works well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Can take direction and follow through to completion.
  • A Bachelors/Associates/Certification in a green industry related field, or commensurate experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to develop and manage budgets.
  • Understanding of safety protocols and regulations.

Job Description, Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Design Development

  • Collaborate with clients to understand their needs, preferences, and budget constraints.
  • Conduct site analysis including assessing the soil, topography, climate, and existing vegetation.
  • Develop initial design concepts and present them to client for feedback.
  • Integrate elements such as hardscapes, water features, lighting, and furnishings into cohesive designs.


Planning & Documentation

  • Create detailed landscape plans, including layout drawings, plant lists, and material specifications.
  • Consider sustainability practices in the planning process.
  • Ensure designs comply with local zoning regulations and building codes.
  • Develop construction documents and collaborate with architects, contractors, Lupfer Landscaping leadership team.


Plant Selection & Knowledge

  • Has a strong understanding of plants, including their growth habits, maintenance requirements, and compatibility with the local climate.
  • Ability to select appropriate plants base on factors such as color, texture, size, and seasonal adaptability.


Construction Oversight

  • Work closely with contractors during the implementation phase to ensure that the design is executed as planned.
  • Provide guidance on proper installation of landscape elements, including plants, hardscapes, and irrigation systems.
  • Monitor construction process to address any issues that may arise and make necessary adjustments to the design.



Budget Management 

  • Develop and manage project budgets considering costs associated with materials, labor, and maintenance.
  • Provide cost estimates to clients and provide transparency about project scope.


Client Communication

  • Maintain consistent communication with clients to keep them informed and updated about the progress of the project.
  • Address client concerns and incorporate feedback into the design process.
  • Educate clients on proper landscape maintenance practices to manage expectations and ensure the longevity of the design.
  • Generate sales from current clients / prospects list.


Minimum Requirements

  • Associate Degree or Certification in Landscape Design & Construction.
  • 5+ years of landscape design and installation experience.
  • Portfolio of work with references.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clients, vendors and Lupfer Landscaping employees.

Landscape Foreman & Laborers

Are you a skilled landscape laborer who takes pride in doing good work? We are looking for employees for can fulfill the following requirements:


  •  Can work well on a team, help create & maintain gardens and outdoor living spaces for residential and commercial clients.
  •   Is dependable, pays attention to details and takes pride in their work.
  •   Can plant and/or remove trees, shrubs, annuals and perennials.
  •   Can complete general tasks such as mulch installation, mowing, edging, raking up debris, shrub pruning or shearing, weeding gardens and leaf removal.
  •   Has experience using hand tools such as shovels, rakes, blowers.
  •   Has experience working with 2 cycle and gasoline powered landscape equipment such as trimmers, edgers, and stander lawn mowers.


Physical Requirements:

  •   Able to work in all weather conditions, winter through summer.
  •   Able to work with or move materials between 50-100 lbs.
  •   Requires continuous use of arms, legs, along with bending, kneeling, stooping, climbing, lifting and walking.
